Player of the Year

Brendan McKay (Blackhawk) - Pitcher/Outfielder/First baseman, Junior
McKay had a big reputation coming into the season -- and he only enhanced it. Not only is he the PG player of the year for the WPIAL, he is Gatorade Pennsylvania player of the year. Had 7-0 pitching record with a 0.09 ERA and finished the season on a 24-inning scoreless streak. He pitched 60 innings, struck out 117 and allowed only three runs (one earned). Also batted better than .400. Has 22-1 career record and has allowed only 18 runs (13 earned) in 184 innings. Already has Division I scholarship offers.

Jared Skolnicki (Keystone Oaks) - Pitcher/Outfielder, Senior
Had terrific senior season after missing all of his junior year with a knee injury. Was 11-1 with 111 strikeouts in 76 innings and 0.28 ERA. Gave up only 36 hits. Also hit .435. Will play next season at Kent State.

Nick Yobbi (South Park) - Pitcher/Outfielder, Senior
Helped South Park win WPIAL AAA title with a perfect record. Finished 7-0 with 0.86 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 49 innings. Hit .500 with 4 doubles, 32 RBIs and 34 runs. Will play next season at Division II South Carolina-Aiken.

Ryan Cox (Hopewell) - Shortstop, Senior
An excellent all-around player for WPIAL Class AAA finalist. Hit .430 with 8 doubles, 2 triples, 27 runs scored, 13 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Also excellent defensively. Will play next season at St. Bonaventure.

Brandon Bergstrom (North Allegheny) - Shortstop, Senior
A terrific defensive shortstop who, as leadoff hitter, was the offensive catalyst for WPIAL Class AAAA champions. He hit .354 with seven doubles and scored 27 runs. Will play next season at Penn State Behrend.

Preston Falascino (Our Lady of Sacred Heart) - Pitcher/Shortstop, Sr.
Led OLSH to runner-up finish in WPIAL Class A. Hit .500 with 11 doubles, 5 home runs, 32 RBIs and 39 runs. Was 8-2 as a pitcher with 0.88 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 64 innings. A Slippery Rock University recruit.

Connor Coward (Seneca Valley) - Pitcher, Junior
After playing outfield as a sophomore, Coward became the ace of the staff for the runner-up in WPIAL Class AAAA. Finished 8-1 with 1.60 ERA and struck out 80 in 61 innings. Division I college prospect for next year.

Zach Martinelli (Hempfield) - Pitcher, Senior
Hempfield's best season in school history was fueled by Martinelli. Was 6-2 with 2.84 ERA. Struck out 54 in 57 innings and had 18 strikeouts in one WPIAL playoff game. Two one-hitters and a no-hitter. A Seton Hill recruit.

P.J. DeMeo (Central Catholic) - Third baseman, Senior
Clutch hitter with power who three times this season hit homer with two outs in seventh inning to send the game into extra innings. Hit .360 with five home runs and 27 RBIs for the Vikings. Will play next season at Pitt.

Anthony Malky (Riverview) - Pitcher/Shortstop, Senior
Led WPIAL in regular-season strikeouts and finished with 107 in 61 innings. Had 6-3 record with 1.25 ERA and five one-hitters. Was 19-6 past three seasons. Hit .577 with 10 doubles and 25 stolen bases. An Akron recruit.
