Player of the Year

Alex Kirilloff • Plum • Outfielder-pitcher Senior
Considered one of the best players in the WPIAL in decades. Was a first-round pick (15th overall) of the Minnesota Twins in the MLB draft. Was only the fifth player from the WPIAL to be a first-round pick out of high school since the draft started. Kirilloff (6 feet 2, 200 pounds) was a two-time All-Area selection. This season, he hit .524 with 16 doubles, 5 triples, 5 home runs and 29 RBIs. His slugging percentage was 1.036. He is extremely athletic with excellent speed. He also was a standout pitcher with a 6-1 record, a 1.48 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 422.3 innings.

Tor Sehnert • Peters Township • Outfielder • Junior
Already committed to Coastal Carolina, a team in this year's NCAA Division I College World Series. Led the WPIAL in home runs in the regular season with eight. He also finished with a .450 batting average, 3 triples, 29 RBIs and a 1.000 slugging percentage.

Tanner Piechnick • Canon-Mcmillan • Catcher • Senior
An outstanding defensive catcher, he threw out 90 percent of would-be base stealers this season. He also hit .430 for the Big Macs — a WPIAL Class AAAA semifinalist — with 5 doubles, 2 home runs and 19 RBIs. Will play next season at Ohio University.

Tommy Pellis • Greensburg Central Catholic • Shortstop • Senior
Pellis had one of the greatest regular seasons with the bat in WPIAL history, hitting .745. He finished the season with a .629 batting average and 12 doubles, 7 triples, 4 home runs and 30 RBIs. He will play for the University of Pennsylvania of the Ivy League next season.

Michael Boswell • Riverside • Pitcher/infielder • Senior
Boswell finished the season on a 422?3-inning scoreless streak. He pitched a nine-inning shutout in the WPIAL Class AA title game. He ended the season with a 9-1 record with a 0.50 ERA and and 98 strikeouts in 692?3 innings. He will play at Division II Tiffin (Ohio).

Frank Fraschetti • Neshannock • Pitcher • Senior
Fraschetti finished his career with a 33-6 record. The 33 wins represent the second-most in the history of the WPIAL. He was 9-3 this year with a 1.10 ERA for the Class AA runner-up Lancers. He will play next season at Harford Community College (Md.).

Trent Vietmeier • Montour • Pitcher/infielder • Junior
Vietmeier made a verbal commitment to LSU of the Southeastern Conference during his sophomore year. He was recruited as a pitcher. He was 5-0 this year with a 0.98 ERA, while hitting .472 with 17 RBIs at the plate. He made All-Area team last year as a sophomore.

Jake Jessell • Woodland Hills • Catcher/pitcher/infielder • Senior
A versatile player with an excellent arm, he was second in strikeouts in the WPIAL during the regular season. Finished with a 6-2 record. He also hit .365 with seven doubles and 19 RBIs. He will play at Pitt and could play a number of positions for Panthers.

Cole Horew • Chartiers Valley • Pitcher/outfielder • Senior
With his hitting and pitching, Horew led the Colts to the first WPIAL title in program history this season, defeating Blackhawk, 4-3, in the title game. He hit .350 and also was 7-1 as a pitcher for this year's Class AAA champions. He will play next season at Point Park.

Matt Tarabek • Hempfield • Shorstop/pitcher • Senior
Helped Hempfield reach the WPIAL Class AAAA semifinals and the PIAA quarterfinals. He was a versatile player, going 6-2 with three saves and 48 strikeouts in 521?3 innings as a pitcher while also hitting .352 with seven doubles at the plate. He will play next season at Fordham.
