Sam Breen (Player of the Year)

C.W. North Catholic, 6-1 • Forward • Senior

The scoop: Capped off fantastic career with a WPIAL title. Scored 2,488 career points, 10th-best in WPIAL history. Had 1,175 career rebounds. This season, averaged 23.6 points, 10.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists. Shot 57 percent from field. Shot 55 percent for her career.

College talk: Division I scholarship offers and signed with Dayton.

Most memorable moment this season: WPIAL championship, for sure.

Favorite basketball player of all time: I like Katie Lou Samuelson from UConn.

Favorite person to follow on Twitter: Either the Post-Gazette high school sports or MSA Sports, to keep up on scores.

Most underrated part of your game: Passing.

Do you play any playground basketball? I play sometimes at the Pine-Richland Community Center with my brother and sometimes we play one-on-one.

Toughest individual opponent: Whoever played the post from Villa Maria.

Person who has influenced you the most, other than a parent: [North Catholic] coach Molly Rottmann. She just helped me with so much, from basketball to the recruiting process to other things off the court.

Amani Johnson

East Allegheny, 5-5 • Guard • Junior

The scoop: The WPIAL's leading scorer this season (29.5 ppg). Also averaged 5.1 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 4 steals a game. With one more season to go, already has 1,570 career points.

College talk: Has a few Division I scholarship offers.

Most memorable moment this season: When we beat Charleroi the second time because that kind of secured that we were going to win the section, and then we played South Allegheny the last game, it was like "Section champs!"

Favorite basketball player of all time: I have a lot, like Skylar Diggins, Kyrie Irving and Steph Curry. I don't have one.

People might be surprised to know: I played basketball with the boys until ninth grade.

Most underrated part of your game: Dribbling.

Do you play any playground basketball?: I play at the court by my house a couple blocks up, and the boys from Woodland Hills come up.

Toughest individual opponent: I don't know. The toughest team was Bishop Canevin, man. They got it done. And I will say, the girls on their team were tough.

Person who has influenced you the most, other than a parent: My fifth grade teacher, Mr. Gerbi.

Sierra Kotchman

Trinity, 5-6 • Guard • Senior

The scoop: Trinity made it to a PIAA championship game and Kotchman was the driving force. She averaged 19.3 points and had 68 3-pointers. She shot 50 percent from the field and also averaged 4 rebounds and 4.3 assists. She scored 1,706 career points.

College talk: Has signed with Fairmont State, a Division II school in West Virginia.

Most memorable moment this season: Probably making it to the state championship in Hershey and having a great time with my teammates.

Favorite basketball player of all time: I love Steph Curry.

Favorite person to follow on Twitter: I usually just go on Twitter to check basketball scores.

People might be surprised to know: I'm a huge fan of "The Walking Dead," and I can juggle, too.

Most underrated part of your game: Probably shot blocking. I led my team in blocks this year (58).

Toughest individual opponent: Probably our biggest rivalry would be South Fayette

Person who has influenced you the most, other than a parent: So I can't use my mom? I feel like my mom's my No. 1 role model. She taught me everything I know about basketball.

Amanda Kalin

Pine-Richland, 5-7 • Guard • Senior

The scoop: One of the best all-around athletes in the WPIAL. Kalin was a standout soccer player and made the Post-Gazette All-Area team. She is a two-time Fab 5 selection in basketball. This season, averaged 23.2 points, 5.5 rebounds. 4 assists, 3 steals and had 51 3-pointers. She shot 68 percent from two-point range and finished her career with 1,868 points.

College talk: Signed with Duquesne University. Originally committed to Rutgers for soccer, but changed her mind for basketball.

Most memorable moment this season: Breaking the school scoring record on senior night.

Favorite basketball player of all time: Kyrie Irving.

Most underrated part of your game: How about deflections on defense?

Favorite person to follow on Twitter: I just like to check scores, like basketball scores.

People might be surprised to know: I make a really good seagull noise.

Toughest individual opponent: Rachel Martindale probably from North Allegheny.

Person who influenced you the most, other than a parent: Jason Kutney, when he coached me with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Academy team.

Desiree Oliver

Penn Hills, 5-8 • Guard • Senior

The scoop: A standout guard who finished her career with 1,725 points. This season, she averaged 20.2 points a game and also 7.1 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 5.9 assists. She shot 85 percent from the free-throw line and helped the Indians make the WPIAL Class 6A semifinals.

College talk: Oliver had a number of offers before signing with Temple.

Most memorable moment this season: Coming back and beating Bethel Park in the state playoffs.

Favorite basketball payer of all time: LeBron James.

People might be surprised to know: That I throw the javelin.

Most underrated part of your game: I would just say my IQ. Knowing where to be at all times. Knowing how to be in the right place at the right times.

Do you play any playground basketball?: Sometimes I like to play pickup with the boys from my school.

Toughest individual opponent: North Allegheny's Hailey Zeise is always a tough matchup for us. She' just so energetic and everywhere on defense.

Person who has influenced you the most, other than a parent: I would say [Penn Hills] coach [Robert] Cash. I've been playing for him for so long and he's always there to motivate me.
