Post-Gazette's 2012 Boys Soccer All-Area Team

Player of the Year

SPENCER VILELLA, SENECA VALLEY: Vilella is a senior forward who was a four-year starter for Seneca Valley. This is his second season on the Post-Gazette All-Area team and he is a two-time all-state selection. This year, he was also selected the Pennsylvania Player of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and also an All-American. Vilella helped Seneca Valley make the WPIAL playoffs four years in a row. He finished his career with 38 goals and 27 assists. Vilella will play next season at Xavier University.

SPENCER POSEY, MARS: A senior forward, Posey helped Mars make it to a WPIAL title game for the second time in three years. He is an excellent scorer who had 32 goals and 18 assists this season. He is a well-rounded player who was selected Class AA Section 2 Player of the Year. He will play next season at Lafayette.

ZACH BROUJOS, CENTRAL CATHOLIC: Broujos had played midfield and defender in his first three seasons at Central Catholic, but developed into a standout forward in his senior year. He finished with 24 goals and 15 assists and was an all-state selection.

WES BURDETTE, UPPER ST. CLAIR: Defense was a key factor in Upper St. Clair's run to the PIAA Class AAA title -- and Burdette was the leader of the defense. A 6-foot-3 senior defender, he anchored a defense that allowed only 12 goals in 25 games and had 16 shutouts. He also had three goals and five assists.

NATHAN DEARTH, MONTOUR: Dearth, a senior, was an outstanding defender for Montour, anchoring a defense that had seven shutouts and allowed only 20 goals in 18 games. A two-time All-Area selection, Dearth also scored six goals this season. He also was the kicker for Montour's football team and will play soccer next season at Northwestern.

TROYE KIERNAN, UPPER ST. CLAIR: A junior midfielder, Kiernan helped the Panthers win a PIAA Class AAA title with a record of 22-2-1. Playing on a well-balanced offense, Kiernan led Upper St. Clair with 13 goals. He also had five assists and made the all-state team. Some Division I colleges are showing interest in him.

DANTE PICCOLO, QUAKER VALLEY: This Piccolo player had 18 goals and 17 assists in leading Quaker Valley to its first WPIAL championship in 13 years. A senior midfielder, Piccolo finished his career with 35 goals. He also played tennis for Quaker Valley and will play soccer next season at Lafayette.

PAT SULLIVAN, PINE-RICHLAND: At 6 feet 4, Sullivan is one of the bigger midfielders in the district. He helped Pine-Richland go 18-3 this season. The Rams made it to the semifinals of the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs. Sullivan, a senior, had six goals and six two assists and was solid in every facet of the game. He will play at Duquesne University.

ZACH GRAZIANI, WEST ALLEGHENY: Soccer talent runs in the Graziani family. Zach's older brother, Tyler, was an All-Area selection last year. Zach is a junior defender who was one of the main reasons West Allegheny had nine shutouts and allowed only 10 goals in 18 games. He also had four goals and three assists this year.

TYLER McCARTHY, PINE-RICHLAND: Pine-Richland was very successful this season, going 18-3. McCarthy was one of the primary reasons. A senior midfielder, McCarthy had an excellent defensive style to his game for a team that allowed only eight goals in 21 games. He also scored five goals and had three assists.

SEAN GALLAGHER, BETHEL PARK: Gallagher is a senior midfielder who has attracted some interest from a few Division I colleges. He was a three-year starter who did a little of everything for the Black Hawks, a WPIAL Class AAA playoff team this season. He had 12 goals and 10 assists this year and was an all-state pick.

MIKE PCHOLINSKY, SOUTH PARK: Pcholinsky is a senior midfielder who finished his career with 50 goals and 47 assists. He helped South Park to a 19-1 record and finished with 20 goals and 13 assists. He was a four-year varsity member and a two-time all-state selection.
