Post-Gazette's 2012 Girls Soccer All-Area Team

Player of the Year

VERONICA LATSKO, PETERS TOWNSHIP: Latsko, a junior, is the Post-Gazette Player of the Year for the second consecutive season as she led the Indians to their third consecutive PIAA Class AAA championship. Latsko, a 5-foot-8 forward, had 36 goals and 11 assists this season as Peters Township also won a WPIAL title for the second time in three seasons. She had three hat tricks and five goals in a game against Villa Maria and constantly came through in the clutch, scoring seven goals in Peters Township's seven postseason games. For her career, Latsko has 107 goals. She is considered one of the best players in the WPIAL in the past couple decades. She was an All-American this season and already has made a verbal commitment to the University of Virginia, a top program in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Rest

OLIVIA ROBERSON, PETERS TOWNSHIP: Roberson and Latsko were a potent one-two punch for Peters Township. Roberson, a senior forward, led Peters Township in goals with 37 and also had 10 assists for the three-time PIAA champion Indians. Roberson has 81 career goals and will play next season at Duquesne University.

FRANNIE CROUSE, GREENSBURG CENTRAL CATHOLIC: Crouse is only a junior, but already has made a verbal commitment to Penn State. A forward, Crouse is one of the best goal scorers in the WPIAL in recent years. She had 55 this year and has 142 for her career (also 70 assists). Next year, she has an outside chance to equal or surpass the WPIAL record of 205 goals.

MORGAN WILLIAMS, SENECA VALLEY: A senior forward, Williams played a key role in Seneca Valley's run to the WPIAL Class AAA title game. She had 19 goals and eight assists this season. A four-year starter, she finished her career with 39 goals and 22 assists. She will play next season at Kent State.

MALEA FABEAN, GREENSBURG CENTRAL CATHOLIC: Fabean helped Greensburg Central win its second consecutive WPIAL Class A title and also a PIAA championship. She had 36 goals and 32 assists this season. A junior forward, she has 106 career goals and 87 assists. She has already made a verbal commitment to Pitt.

CARLY SENECA, GATEWAY: Seneca was a four-year starter at Gateway and has decided to play next season at Pitt. A senior forward, Seneca was a two-time All-Area selection and a three-time all-state pick. This season, she had 24 goals and 10 assists for a team that reached the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals.

LIANA LEJA, SOUTH FAYETTE: Leja was a four-year starter who finished her career as South Fayette's all-time leading goal scorer with 112. She was a two-time all-state selection and this year had 34 goals and seven assists. "She is a tricky player and has a very strong shot," said South Fayette coach Wayne Capra.

ANTONIA GRESE, MOON: A senior forward, Grese helped Moon shine this season as the Tigers won a PIAA Class AA championship. Grese did a lot of everything for Moon -- she had 29 goals and 37 assists. She finished her career with 76 goals and 75 assists and was a two-time all-state selection.

BETHANY PERRI, MARS: Success followed Perri in her career at Mars. She was a four-year starter who won three WPIAL championships and one PIAA title. A senior midfielder, Perri saved her best season for last, scoring 20 goals and tallying 24 assists for the WPIAL Class AA champion Planets.

CARLEY BOGAN, UPPER ST. CLAIR: Bogan, a senior midfielder, was a two-time all-state selection. She was in Upper St. Clair's starting lineup since her freshman year and finished her career with a senior season in which she recorded 13 goals and 22 assists.

A.J. BAROFFIO, BETHEL PARK: Baroffio had six hat tricks for the Black Hawks this season. A forward, Baroffio had a terrific senior season with 35 goals and 13 assists and helped the team to a 20-3 record. A three-year starter, she finished her career with 74 goals. She will play next season at Duquesne University.

LAUREN KOVALCHUK, BELLE VERNON: Belle Vernon made the WPIAL playoffs for the third consecutive season and the PIAA playoffs for the first time. Kovalchuk was a driving force in the Leopards' success. She had 17 goals and 13 assists and finished her career with 56 goals and 35 assists. She will play next season at Division I Stony Brook University.
