Post-Gazette's 2016 Softball All-Area Team

Player of the Year

Morgan Ryan • Hempfield • Pitcher • Junior
For the second year in a row, Ryan takes home the Post-Gazette's top individual honor in WPIAL softball. A Notre Dame recruit and third-year starter, Ryan led Hempfield to a 25-2 record, a second consecutive WPIAL title and a PIAA championship. She had 12 shutouts this season, including the WPIAL final and all four PIAA wins, saving her best for last with a one-hitter in the title game. She had a 23-2 record overall with a 1.11 ERA, 188 strikeouts and 34 walks. Also stellar at the plate, she hit .333 with 6 home runs and 30 RBIs, one short of the school record.

Madi Beining • North Allegheny • Pitcher • Senior
Beining, who will play collegiately at Gannon, was a two-way threat for the Tigers. She was 19-4 with a 0.97 ERA and 141 strikeouts on the mound. Offensively, she hit .391 with 24 RBIs to earn all-area honors for a second year in a row.

Briana Bunner • Southmoreland • First baseman • Senior
