A visit with WPIAL Diving champion Paige Kalik

Background Info: Paige Kalik became the first Penn-Trafford diver to win the WPIAL Class 3A championship when she took the title in 2018. This year she became the second. Kalik, a senior for the Warriors and an Akron recruit, rolled to her second consecutive title at North Allegheny with a score of 495.65 – an improvement of 55.25 points from her junior year – to defeat sophomore Maya Ennis of North Allegheny by 60.50. It was the largest margin of victory since 2015 when Chartiers Valley’s Maria Lohman totaled 603.50 and won by 132.95.

Paige Kalik on her WPIAL experience.
"It’s been good. It’s been a lot of stress the last couple of years because the competition has been a lot harder. The last few seniors graduated last year, so I kind of had it a little easier this year.”

Paige Kalik on what’s harder, winning and defending a title.
"This is a tough one. I’d say defending because of the pressure. Everyone was telling me you have to win because you won last year."

Paige Kalik on her signature moment.
"Oh gosh. I would say winning sections with my team and section dual meets. But individually, I would say making it to states the first time (as a sophomore in 2017) because I wasn’t expecting to."
