A visit with WPIAL tennis champion Lauren Greb

Background Info: When Greb initially came onto the scene in 2017 she was originally penciled into the Knoch lineup as the No. 2 singles player behind sophomore Elle Santora. But that all changed when Santora transferred to Shady Side Academy. Moved into the top spot of the Knights lineup, she led the team to a runner-up finish in the WPIAL Class 2A team tennis championships and a berth in the state tournament where they lost in the second round to Wyomissing. She also made a splash individually as she became the first Knoch player ever to win a WPIAL Class 2A singles title with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over defending champion Katherine Marks of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and finished second in the state. Last month, the No. 11 sophomore in the state rankings became the first player in 11 years to repeat with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Simran Bedi of Sewickley Academy.

Laura Greb's WPIAL impressions.
"It’s been a great experience. There are a lot of good competitors out there and it’s a lot of fun. It’s really exciting. It’s a great accomplishment."

Laura Greb’s thoughts on the WPIAL team tennis experience.
"I love playing team tennis because USTA tennis is all individual and the team aspect of it is really fun and important to learn. You need to be able to work well with a team."

Laura Greb's thoughts on making her second PIAA Tournament appearance, this time as a two-time WPIAL champion and returning PIAA runner-up.
"I’m definitely a target and people are going to try to knock me out before I get to the finals again. I have to be ready for that and push myself."
