A visit with WPIAL wrestling champion Christian Clutter

Background Info: Christian Clutter is a two-sport star at McGuffey High School. He is a member of the football team, where he ranked 12th in the WPIAL with 1,548 yards on 135 carries. He also ranked second in yards per carry at 11.5. He is also a four-year starter on the Highlanders wrestling team. Clutter has won two WPIAL Class 2A titles. He also placed fourth in the Southwest Region and fourth in the PIAA last season, en route to a 47-6 record. This season, he has a 17-2 record heading into January, while competing at 182 pounds. His career record is 136-25.

Christian Clutter's WPIAL experience.
"I placed fourth in the WPIAL (at 152 pounds) as a freshman. I moved up to 160 as a sophomore and won my first WPIAL title. Last year, I won my second WPIAL title at 170. Both of my title matches were hard-fought victories. It's my best wrestling. Winning a WPIAL title is something special, especially when you look back at all the previous champions. It's a great honor to win a WPIAL title.

Clutter's PIAA experience.
"Last year was my first year at Hershey. I was able to place fourth (at 170). My hope is to return in the same weight class in March and bring home a gold medal. That would be the ultimate title."

Clutter and his college search: football or wrestling.
"I have not picked a sport yet. I'm still deciding," Clutter said. "It's hard to concentrate on recruiting during the season. Right now, my mind is on wrestling. How I do in the WPIAL and PIAA tournaments will play a part in my decision, so I may wait until the end of the season."
