This Week in the WPIAL (Nov. 12-17)

Five things to watch for the week of Nov. 12-17.

* Four WPIAL football champions will be crowned Saturday at Heinz Field. It will be Our Lady of the Sacred Heart against Rochester in the Class 1A final at 11 a.m., Aliquippa against Derry in the Class 3A final at 2 p.m., Thomas Jefferson against South Fayette in the Class 4A final at 5 p.m., and Pine-Richland against Seneca Valley in the Class 6A final at 8 p.m.

* The other two WPIAL football championships won’t be decided until the following weekend. The semifinals in Class 5A and Class 2A will be played Friday. In Class 5A, it will be Gateway against West Allegheny and Penn Hills against Peters Township. In Class 2A, it will be South Side Beaver against Charleroi and Freedom against Steel Valley.

* The PIAA volleyball semifinals are Tuesday and the championships will take place Saturday at Cumberland Valley. Three WPIAL teams are still in contention: North Allegheny in Class 4A, Knoch in Class 3A, and Freeport in Class 2A.

* The PIAA boys soccer semifinals are Tuesday and the championships will be Friday and Saturday at Hersheypark Stadium. The WPIAL still has seven teams in contention: Seneca Valley in Class 4A, West Allegheny and Franklin Regional in Class 3A, Shady Side Academy and Deer Lakes in Class 2A, and Avonworth and Greensburg Central Catholic in Class 1A.

* The PIAA girls soccer semifinals are Tuesday and the championships will be Friday and Saturday at Hersheypark Stadium. The five WPIAL teams remaining are Peters Township in Class 4A, Oakland Catholic in Class 3A, South Park in Class 2A, and Freedom and Shady Side Academy in Class 1A.
